Many issues regarding food and eating behaviors (compulsive, emotional & restrictive) are often due to a history of dieting and/or using food to help deal with life's challenges - - to help you cope.  For unique reasons, specific to your life story, you may have disconnected food and eating from its intended purpose - - nourishment and enjoyment.  Furthermore, dieting and other restrictive behavior can send you even further form natural or healthy beliefs and behaviors about food and eating.

Unlike many other addictive coping mechanisms (drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, excessive gambling, etc) using food and eating to cope poses a unique challenge.  Food and eating is essential to living (you need to eat to survive) - whereas alcohol, cigarettes and gambling are not.  In turn, the challenge is learning how to incorporate food back into your life - for what it is intended - - for physical nourishment and enjoyment.

Counseling with Eve Lahijani entails a non-diet approach that helps clients separate eating and food from their emotions and other issues.  You will finally learn how to listen to your own body's hunger/fullness signals and cravings to know exactly when to eat, how much to eat and what to eat.  As you develop self-trust, you will become more comfortable around food/eating.  You will also develop strategies to manage life's difficulties more productively - - without using food!
